As European economies recover from the pandemic, what might the real estate market look like in the coming year? According to a PWC and Urban Land Institute survey, "the importance of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) matters has crystallised in the wake of the pandemic, gaining renewed urgency."

Ian Mulvaney, Head of our National Building Consultancy Team, believes: "Property professionals are pivotal in challenging clients on disclosure and steering them towards better environmental compliance, resource use and social impact. Consultancy stewardship is an important aspect of a transparent property management approach."

Sustainability does now appear to be entering mainstream business considerations and it is becoming even more important for everyone operating in the real estate and property sector to do more in support of the green agenda.

Even after an unexpected and unprecedented two years, the appetite for the property sector to reduce its environmental impact remains strong, as recent industry events, hosted by Estates Gazette and Property Week have demonstrated.

There can be no doubt that, as Government’s Climate Change Committee recently warned, “climate change must be built into all long-term decisions, such as new housing or infrastructure. The aim should be to avoid costly remedial actions in the future."

At Bruton Knowles, sustainability considerations are at the forefront of everything we do. We appreciate the importance of ensuring all new infrastructure development is future-proofed and believe there is a real opportunity for those operating in the built environment sector to innovate, leaving a lasting and sustainable legacy for future generations.

Our four National Teams - Utilities and Infrastructure, Commercial, Valuation and Building Consultancy - are made up of surveying experts who are all geared up to offer expert advice and support on these types of issues. Get in touch to find out how we can help you in the quest to go green.
